The Second meeting in Girona,
II Jornadas de SIG Libre, for the Spanish community of FOSS GIS have been a great success.
During the week-end (Feb 1-2) we've been involved in an OSM Mapping Party.
At the meeting (Feb 3-4-5) I've presented a couple of things: a ka-Map Workshop on Monday and presentations for OpenLayers and PyWPS Tuesday and Wednesday.
I've been involved in a very interesting round table about FOSS and
international co-operation joint with Miquel Carrillo (Enginyeria Sense Fronteres, ESF), Gabriel Carrión (gvSIG project director, Conselleria de Infraestructuras y Transportes), Càrol Puig (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, UPC). I'm sure this debate has been useful for me and all the attendance, focusing practical and ethical issues around the usage of FOSS around the world.
With
Jorge Sanz we've been presenting the OSGeo community and the
Spanish Language OSGeo local chapter. People and institutions are getting more and more interested and this is exciting.
I invite who's interested to join the
mailing list or the
IRC channel ( irc://irc.freenode.net#osgeo-es ).
Another beloved thread is about the Free GIS Book. Things are going forward, cool. I hope to contribute with a little part over web services. During the meeting,
Tyler Mitchell helped giving some good hints about making GIS books.
thanks a lot to Irene Compte, Lluís Vicens and their crew for the excellent organization of the meeting.
ciao
Lorenzo
