Jornadas gvSIG

Valencia 14-16 Nov 2007

In this days I had the pleasure to visit the gvSIG community in his third annual event, "las Jornadas GvSIG".
As usual in latest FOSS meetings, the result has been much higher then what expected. Probably I have a poor imagination...

Three days of presentations

Most of presentations has naturally been over gvSIG, its use cases, its latest enhancements.
The integration with Sextante is going on and a marvelous set of raster analysis tool has been added. As in Victoria I've appreciated the Mobile version and its features. Same for gvSIG 3d; looking forward the release of the first beta version.
GeoNetwork has been the second most cited software, revealing the serious SDI oriented framework around gvSIG; facing the day by day needing of the public administration.

Presenting OSGeo

Meeting organization allowed me and Jorge to present OSGeo to the public. Lately gvSIG started its incubation process to enter OSGeo, many persons are looking forward for its graduation as both communities will surely benefit from such an event.

Free Gis book

The second meeting about the GIS book has seen a great support, even unexpected, after few month of life. There's a great crew, many works in progress; we'll hopefully see some reviewed draft for the meeting in Girona, next march.

Organization

I've been surprised by the quality of the organization. Not usual for a FOSS meeting.
