PostGIS Rasters

The WKTRaster project has finally started, thanks to fundings raised by Steve Cumming (Université Laval), Martin Daly (CadCorp) and Tyler Erickson (Michigan Tech Research Institute).

The current code defines a RASTER type for PostgreSQL and bounding-box based spatial operators on it. Relying on implicit casts you can already use all functions defined for the BOX2D PostGIS type.

There's a lot more to be done to make it really usable, but the foundations are there now and we can then build on them (see specs).

If you ever asked "does PostGIS support rasters?" then this is the best time to help answering YES by contributing time or money to the project!
