Cameron Shorter, in this post, announce the LiveDVD that will go to FOSS4G2008 in Cape Town as OSGeo LiveDVD.

We are happy that Doktoreas's work has been expanded by LisaSoft and produced a first community effort for a LiveCD/DVD from OSGeo.
We hope this effort can go on and get better and better.

In this live CD we've put both the C and Java stacks of FOSS GIS application and some free geo datasets to try them directly.
Another cool feature derived from Xubuntu, where the live come from, is the possibility to install on the local machine the GNU/Linux same as in the live cd with all software and geodata.

you can download the liveDVD from this link:
http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/FOSS4G-2008-LiveDVD-Alpha4.iso

While working on the latest release of our Livecd, we prepared a custom version to be used by FOSS-GIS training course participants during the FOSS4G2008 in Cape Town. All the specifications were decided in collaboration with Moritz Lennert, whom we would like to thank for all the support while I was without an Internet connection.

The DVD is a Xubuntu system containing recent versions of:

GRASS
QGIS
PostgreSQL+PostGIS
GDAL
R
Openoffice
etc...

It also contains the new North Carolina GRASS demo data set, next to the old Spearfish data set.

On the DVD, there is also a special win/ folder with the following windows installers:

- FWTools221.exe
- QGIS-0.11.0-1-Setup.exe
- WinGRASS-6.3.0-4-Setup.exe
- gvSIG-1_1_1-windows-i586-withjre.exe
- ms4w-2.2.8-setup.exe

You can download it from here:
http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/
(Size: 1210691584, Md5sum: d5b47e81d19045cabcad8e0b5cc655dc)

Hope you'll enjoy it.
After some time spent gathering information about livecd making tools, we have decided to move our magical box from Gentoo to Ubuntu. Some improvement will be:

-	An installable livecd
-	A better hardware detection system
-	More applications

I know that Gentoo is a really cool distro, but its lack of most GIS package that a lot of us use every day..
When the first release? Of course I don’t know, but expect at least by the end of the next month

See you soon

Ciao
On 6 e 7 of June, in Prato (Italy), will take place The Italian Meeting of Postgresql user; during those 2 days, there will be a lot of talks and workshop to show the great
power of this database.
Ominiverdi have customized the 2007.0 livecd to suite the needs of the event, adding software like Mapserver, Pmapper, Phppgadmin and custom dataset. There are also new feature
that will be released in 2007.0 Server Edition like:

- Reading linux/windows partition from the machine loading the livecd.
- A better video setting detection
- Much more.

Soon we'll start a Livecd Customization Program:
this will allow you to get a Livecd "made upon you", with any change that you need.. so that it can be used in workshop, demo, meeting, ecc..

You can find more info here:

Pgday-it Home Page

The iso is here (remember that is in Italian):

Pgday-it Livecd
Ominiverdi's Desktop LiveCd 2007.1 Release Candidate 1 is out:
http://livecd.ominiverdi.org/index.php?page=LiveCD&toc=livecd

Why the world needs a 2007.1 ? Basically for 2 reasons:

1) 2007.0 was the first official release of The Ominiverdi LiveCd Project; we created this LiveCd as WE thought it should be done, keeping in mind that is just a way to get feedback from the comunity.
From the ~150 download, we got a lot of ideas about things that should be changed/removed/add and some of them are inside 2007.1

2)Time pass and softwares are updated. When we decided to start this project, we focused on 1 point: don't let die the LiveCd after some time. If you think that LiveCd is used almost by people that approach GIS FOSS world for the first time, it's good to give them latest tools, with new features and less bugs... only in this way they could appreciate the power of those tools!

Now a sad changelog

Gdal updated to 1.4.1
Proj updated to 4.5.0 with NAD fix
Postgis updated to 1.2.1

R, and PgAdmin added.

We are still at RC1, so please report any problem or new features!

Please use this post comments and the wiki page to suggest improvement.
This is not the final release and we can do a better work with your suggestions
